VISIT TO THE INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH -
SINGAPORE - SEPTEMBER 2010

I accompanied a group of 20 nurses from India and South Korea on a visit to Singapore's Institute of Mental Health.

This is the entrance. Although Singapore is a crowded city the location was pleasant. One of the buildings was called a "Wellness Centre".

The foyer had several shops, including a 7-11 store.

This is actually a poster in the foyer with a named caregiver expaining what she does.

This is a named staff member explaining his role.

A laudry which patients use.

This is a four-bed ward.

A theatrette for patients.

Staff members carry their own personal hand santisers.

There are 1,976 beds in total. Not all are in use.

Schizophrenic disorders were the most common for both outpatients and inpatients.

There are 10 beds in the HDU. Restraints are used on patients with a severe disorder.

This is the schedule for an 8-week Stepping Stone program. Line dancing is available! It is fairly full.
