THE CHARTER OF BTA INC, AS ADOPTED ON 3 NOVEMBER 2003 SUBSEQUENT TO THE 2003 WORKSHOP.

 

BTAInc is the voice for brain tumour patients and their families.

We believe through striving to achieve our mission that we as a valuable part of the community can achieve our vision.

To this end BTAInc will work with Health Professionals, State and Federal Government and Community organisations to:

1. Provide a united voice in the government and community sectors at local, state and national levels - liaise with governments, the health professions and the community to raise awareness of issues specific to tumours of the central nervous system.

2. Raise the profile of people diagnosed with a tumour of the Central Nervous System by valuing and promoting the importance of the lived experiences of people with tumours of the Central Nervous System, their carers and families.

3. Influence policy development and priorities, research agendas, community education and service delivery practices - encourage evidence based scientific research into causes and clinical treatments for CNS tumours.

4. Improve Support - Recommend the provision of appropriate community support and advice to assist patients and families to better understand the issues relevant to tumours of the central nervous system.

5.  Identify issues and Advocate for Optimal Care - Recommend development of best clinical and palliative care practice as appropriate for each state and territory.

6. Develop partnerships, foster Networking and work collaboratively with those who share its goals - Encourage national and international networking by those organisations best place to assist those diagnosed with Central Nervous System Tumours and their carers, including organisations interested in: a. Tumours of the Central Nervous System b. Cancer c. All Patient and carer issues. d. Financial support. e. Psychosocial issues.

7.  Support members through a range of initiatives."
